Keeping this site up to date
Thursday, December 30th, 2004I’ve added a more general blog section ([link deleted]) to this site, for adding bits and pieces that don’t go anywhere else and for personal items. Hopefully making it easier to keep part of my new year resolutions, but it does mean more work. Let’s see how long I can keep at it.
New Year Resolutions
Wednesday, December 29th, 2004A good time to review what I could have done better in 2004 and what I hope to improve in 2005. So I’ve got a couple of resolutions that I hope to stick to in the new year. I think I’ve been too wrapped up in meetings since June and not enough time out and [...]
Bus Shelters
Monday, October 11th, 2004 I’ve been in touch with the council about the bus shelters around Moorside – particularly on Digmoor Road. The District Council looks after the green shelters with the perspex windows.
I’m pretty sure that almost all the shelters in Moorside have been vandalised – one was recently replaced, so it should be OK. These pictures [...]
Ex Social Services offices, Birkrig
Tuesday, October 5th, 2004The old Social Services offices at Birkrig have been empty now for a couple of months since the department moved out.
Understandably, people locally are concerned what’s going to happen to the flats – at the moment they’ve been left boarded up. I’ve been in touch with the Housing officers who are still responsible for the [...]
Wall completed?
Thursday, September 2nd, 2004
The council have sorted out the wall (see pictures). Not a great job, but at least it’s far better and safer than it was. The wall, and other parts of Digmoor Parade, could do with a lick of paint and I’m hoping that the council will be receptive to the idea. That might take a [...]
Taking a stand campaign
Monday, August 30th, 2004West Lancs Labour Councillors have kicked off their "Taking a stand" campaign to raise awareness of the new powers available through the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003.
There is more information at the West Lancs Labour website (http://www.westlancslabour.org.uk).
Wall near community centre – update
Tuesday, August 17th, 2004After contacting both the County and District council (and being directed to the Lancashire Road Partnership!) I’ve finally got an assurance from the District council that the wall is to be rebuilt and strengthened.
It was the opening of the Digmoor Community Centre today, which was a brilliant event and Margaret, Ann and everyone involved have [...]
Dates For Skips
Saturday, August 7th, 2004The District Council are placing skips, fortnightly around Holland Moor and Digmoor. They can be used for old furniture, garden waste or any domestic waste that you need to get rid of.
The skips will be placed at the following locations:
Hare and Hounds Pub
Carfield – Near the Community Centre
Birkrig Community Centre (Digmoor Community Centre)
Banksbarn (near 17-19)
The dates for [...]
Full Council 28th July 2004
Thursday, July 29th, 2004My first speech at the district council was overshadowed by confusion
after the meeting had been adjurned. The Chairman stopped the meeting,
giving no indication of whether the meeting would resume and
consequently most Labour councillors left. I stayed on to speak about
leisure services, and was joined by two other councillors.
I stayed because I’d invested a lot of [...]
Wall near Digmoor Community Centre and the Duck Pub
Thursday, July 22nd, 2004The wall between the Duck Pub and Digmoor Road is in a poor state of
repair. There are holes that have been knocked though and it’s clearly
dangerous for children who could get down to the road.
The wall runs up the side of the carpark to the Community Centre. The
two holes shown above are near the Duck [...]
